Trading Cards

Trading Cards

As far as trading cards go, I have a ton.  My forte (get it?) is getting high end rookie cards at low prices. Of course I have Ditka, Sayers, Butkus, Payton and Urlacher rookie cards, and Cutler and Forte, etc. etc.  I also like the oddball cards; the really bizarre ones.  Right now I am trying to complete a couple of collections: the 1991-92 Proline Portrait Autographs and the 2004 Playoff Prime Proof and Prime Proof Signatures.  It's frustrating when each card has 8 different variations, but that is what makes it fun, too - to get one of each of those.  I also collect the 1985 Edge Time Warp 8x10s of Dick Butkus.  they are all autographed and show Butkus getting ready to tackle a player not from his era - hence the "Time Warp" thingy. I'm not going to post all my cards here, but you get the point.  I might have a list saved on Beckett.com.  I will have to check.

and how can we forget these marvelous Draft Picks

I like collecting the draft pick cards where the player is holding up the #1 jersey.  These cards are a reminder of who was good and who ended up sucking.

I bought a large Mike Singletary collection which included these with on card autos.

About Grouchy:
21 years selling cards online. Before that, owner of Space City Cards Comics & Coins on Main St. in Houston. As a kid I loved baseball and football, and collected cards starting in 1959 - that's 60 years, but it feels like yesterday.  I have bought and sold millions of sports cards over the years. The kids who used to frequent my card shop named me the "Grouchy Old Man" because I had to keep them in line.  The nickname stuck. I'm not that grouchy anymore. I have over 100,000 online
transactions, with an average feedback score of 100% over the years.

Sometimes, things pop up on Ebay that have great value, and the seller is clueless.  There was a set of cards listed as "Chicago Bears Top trumps 1986". I have NO idea where THAT set name came from! I recognized them as the 1987 Ace Fact Pack set from Great Britain.  Complete sets can sell for several hundred dollars. The Walter Payton card in the Chicago Bears set can be worth hundreds on it's own. A PSA 9 is listed now on Ebay for nearly $700.00  I already owned this set, but based on the price of this listing, I just had to bid on it.  The auction was listed in GBP which is the pound sterling money from England.  Maybe that confused people.  After the monetary conversion, I ended up buying the set for only $26.00.  WHAT A STEAL!
